Parish Plan Group

The Parish Plan was formulated between 2000 and 2003. With the help of St Edmundsbury Borough Council a public meeting (attended by over 70 parishioners) was held in the village hall. They were asked to express their concerns and aspirations for the two villages. From this meeting themes were established that people thought would enhance the quality of life in our parishes and a steering group was formed. A questionnaire was sent to every home, the results analysed and a Parish Plan was written and sent to every home and eventually launched in the village hall in 2003. The number 1 concern was for affordable housing for young people.
The steering group then set to work to find ways of implementing the proposals set out in the plan. As a result:-
a) Affordable homes were built.
b) A local walks leaflet was produced
c) A good neighbour scheme was established
d) A computer facility was provided in the ‘Fox’ and training arranged
e) Pavements were extended and others identified for future work.
f) Welcome Pack created for new residents
g) Speed limit signs installed and VAS system provided on A1088
h) An allotment plot in Sapiston was created.
All these improvements would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and hard work of the steering group and the support and help of a wide range of partners including, the Parish Council, The County Councillor, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Suffolk Acre, and Keystone Development Trust etc.
The plan was reviewed in 2007 and minor modifications made as a result of a public meeting in the village Hall.
The steering group still meet twice yearly to consider any issues that might improve the quality of life in the parishes and recently have been able to support the Management Committee of the Village Hall in their bid to the Lottery Fund for a new Hall.
If any parishioners feel there are any areas that the group might explore to improve the quality of life of our community please contact Robin Howe on 01359 269142.
